IF3 Chamonix 2025

As every year, we're focusing on safety, and this will be the subject of a conference on conference on Saturday December 6: Adventure vs Safety in the mountains.

Speakers include Florence Roche, who edited Adventure: reenchanting uncertainty Presses Universitaires de Grenoble, 2025; she will debate with Alain Ghersenhigh-mountain guide, former professor at the École nationale de ski et d'alpinisme, Doctor of Philosophy and author of Risque et alpinisme. A Philosophical Reflection on Homo AlpinusGrenoble, Glénat, 2016 and Eliott Nicotformer alpine hunter with the 27° BCA, director of the film De-escalationcurrently shooting for Le 7ème piège. We are awaiting confirmation of the presence of a member of the Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne (GMHM). One of the guiding ideas is to highlight the influence of social networks on risk-taking. This is what Eliott Nicot calls the èth trap.

Here's how he puts it: "The 7th trap is an unconscious bias in the human factor of mountain accidents. It is the 7th in the list of 6 unconscious traps, and boils down to a failure to introspect before undertaking an activity. It's the individual's disconnection from his or her original motivations for practicing, leading to unfounded risk-taking, which sometimes increases with technical progress. This unconscious bias can be amplified by social networks and is a reflection of the speed society on the mountain."
