The Economics Week with Yann Algan

Classes on Monday the 20th, Tuesday the 21st, Thursday the 23rd, and Friday the 24th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at PlanB.

An economics professor, Yann Algan has received the award for Best Young French Economist and the Best Economics Book award for his two works: The Society of Distrust and The Factory of Distrust. His primary area of focus is trust within French society. He will be our guest professor at the Petite Université and will also meet with students from the Lycée Frison-Roche.

As Associate Dean of Pre-Experience Programs at HEC and former Dean of the Sciences Po School of Public Affairs, his course explores the deep roots of democratic disillusionment and the rise of populist movements through a nuanced analysis of the economic, social, and cultural shifts affecting post-industrial societies.

Special attention will be given to the role of social media in the polarization of public debate and the erosion of civic trust.

He will also examine policy levers for democratic resilience, including the development of new forms of citizen participation, tackling inequality, promoting social mobility, fostering socio-behavioral skills through education, and strengthening media independence and social media regulation as pillars of democratic life.
