Economy Week with Yann Algan

Classes on Monday the 20th, Tuesday the 21st, Thursday the 23rd, and Friday the 24th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at PlanB.

Yann Algan, a professor of economics, has received the award for Best Young French Economist and the award for Best Economics Book for his two works: *La société de défiance* and *La fabrique de la défiance*. His primary area of focus is trust in French society. He will be our guest lecturer at the Petite Université and will also meet with students at Frison-Roche High School.

Associate Dean of Pre-Experience Programs at HEC and former dean of the School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po, in his course he explores the deep-rooted causes of democratic disillusionment and the rise of populist movements through a detailed analysis of the economic, social, and cultural transformations taking place in post-industrial societies.

Particular attention will be paid to the role of social media in polarizing public debate and eroding civic trust.

It will also examine the policy levers available to address the challenge of democratic resilience: developing new forms of citizen participation, combating inequality, promoting social mobility, fostering social and behavioral skills through education, strengthening media independence, and regulating social media as pillars of democratic life.
